How to: Install old MS-DOS tools.
Solution:
At the MS-DOS prompt, type CD\<drive>: and press ENTER. Type \other\oldmsdos and press ENTER. Type INSTUPP.BAT and press ENTER.
NOTE: The following steps require the Windows 95 CD-ROM. If you have the Windows 95 floppy diskettes only, contact Microsoft's online services to obtain the previous version of MS-DOS tools.
1) Insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
2) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
3) Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS' window appears.)
4) At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following and press ENTER:
CD\<drive>: (where <drive>: is the letter of the CD-ROM drive). (The command line prompt changes to the CD drive's designator).
5) At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following and press ENTER:
\OTHER\OLDMSDOS
6) At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following and press ENTER:
INSTSUPP.BAT
7) When the 'Windows 95 Supplemental DOS Tools' menu appears in the MS-DOS window, press any key to continue with the installation.
NOTE 1: To escape from this menu, press CTRL+C.
NOTE 2: The command Instupp.bat will install the following files in the WINDOWS folder:
Chkstate.exe
Memmaker.inf
Sizer.exe
Memmaker.exe
Memmaker.hlp
NOTE 3: In addition, it will install the following files in your WINDOWS\COMMAND folder:
Append.exe
Expand.exe
Graphics.com
Graphics.pro
Help.com
Help.hlp
Instsupp.bat
Interlnk.exe
Intersvr.exe
Qbasic.hlp
Restore.exe
Tree.com
Undelete.exe
Loadfix.com
Monoumb.386
Print.exe
Qbasic.exe
Replace.exe
8) Close the MS-DOS window. (The computer must be restarted for the changes to take effect.)
